Last Call for Lovecraft

Good news. Thanks to a man named Deadeye Dick we have fulfilled our longstanding goal of finding a Cthulhu mythos story with dick jokes. Thanks, Deadeye.

Deadeye Dick’s contribution is just one of many amazing stories to grace the pages of our upcoming special issue in which we challenged writers to mash-up one literary style with something Lovecraftian (as Neil Gaiman so brilliantly did in “A Study in Emerald.”) So far we’ve got a weird Western, the Necronomicon on HGTV, some shit that’s just straight up scary, and Puss in Boots. That’s right, we said, “Puss in Boots,” motherfrakkers. Plus Deadeye Dick’s story.

So how cool is this issue going to be? So cool you’ll want your story in it too. And we have room for maybe one or two truly outstanding pieces, so get to the typing. Midnight on May 1st is our deadline, which leaves you two weeks to get that story finished and submitted.

Be sure to read the guidelines for “Write Lovecraft Like Neil Gaiman” first and remember: Neil Gaiman is not allowed to enter. But you are. Unless you happen to actually be Neil Gaiman, in which case, how about a ReTweet, huh?

PERHAPS is free all week long

We were going to go with “Perhaps we could interest you in something to read,” or some other crappy pun, but we respect you too much.

JDP alumnus and friend, Stephen Schwegler, has a new book, Scattered Together, coming out this Friday and to celebrate we’re giving away the Kindle edition of his first book, Perhaps, starting at midnight tonight.

It’ll be free through the 12th, but don’t wait until the last minute in case we somehow run out of eBooks.

Issue 41 Is Not a CSI Theme Song

We like to think of ourselves as the indie lit community’s Island of Misfit Toys. Which might tell you where you are but doesn’t answer an even more important question: Who are you?

Culturally?

Sexually?

Spiritually?

Maybe even species-ally?

Oh, and just what the hell is your role in life?

Tough questions. To answer them, we welcome back JDP alumni, Nicola Belte and Thomas Broderick; greet newcomers, Andrea Danowski and Nick Sawatsky; and congratulate Haley Johnson on her first publication.

Together they’ve crafted five great stories about people trying to figure out who they really are and where they fit in.

So, who the fuck are you?

Issue 41 of Jersey Devil Press wants you to identify yourself.
